Will History Repeat Itself?

Today is the celebration day for when in 1605 police foiled the so-called Gunpowder Plot by seizing Guy Fawkes before he could blow up the English Parliament.

Many people have worn a Guy Fawkes Mask during the occupy, and other anti-government and anti-establishment protests around the world.

I wonder how many knew who he was and what he stood for.

For those, like me, who didn’t know why, the reason for his attempt to do it was because of among other efforts to quash Catholicism, was the British authorities had suggested that Catholics be required to wear red hats in public.

In the 11th Century, the Islamic world mandated that two yellow badges had to be worn by non-Muslims, (Christians,) and for Jews,  one on the headgear and one on the neck. Furthermore, each Jew must hang round his neck a piece of lead with the word Dhimmi on it. He also has to wear a belt round his waist. The women have to wear one red and one black shoe and have a small bell on their necks or shoes.

In largely Catholic Medieval Europe Jews and Muslims were required to wear distinguishable clothing in some periods.

So it wasn’t original thinking when the Nazis required Jews to wear a yellow star.

I’m wondering when we in the U.S. are going to require immigrants and/or Muslims to wear identifying attire. Don’t think it can’t happen as the ruling class has deemed it necessary throughout history. Am I wrong? I don’t know, what do you think?
